The Bucas Power Turnout Rug range offers the best possible strength, durability, and quality. It provides perfect comfort and protection at both lower and higher temperatures than other rugs of similar weight.
The Bucas Power Turnout Light has a ballistic nylon outer, is waterproof, breathable and has a heat reflective inner aluminium coating suitable for temperatures -10° - 16°*. Shoulder darts and Click’n Go with snap-lock front fastening system means the Power Turnout is always the perfect fit!
The Power Turnout also comes with stay-dry anti-bacterial lining which means the rug can be put on a wet horse the same way as a sweat rug. It will quickly dry the horse and can be left on, thus avoiding extra rug changes. Available in a Classic cut, with a Combi Neck sold separately.

Best rug ever!

She used to overheat during the day in a polar fleece lined synthetic (with no fill) but this rug she has been able to wear without overheating as the temperature range is wider. She is on the small side of a 6’0 so the sizing suits her. And as usual the service from Ashbree was outstanding!

Best rug ever

On warmer days I have arrived expecting her to be a sweaty mess underneath but she has been surprisingly cool. Owned one since last winter with her in a paddock 24/7, there have been no tears whatsoever. Worth its price tag.

Bucas power turnout

They are incredibly hard to damage ( have young horse that has wrecked everyones rugs of other brands except the bucas), they are easy to clean and they don't move on the horse. They are also excellent because you can put them on a wet horse . I have worked a horse hosed them down then put the bucas straight on the horse. At first I was concerned they would stay cold and wet but I checked them multiple times and they were warm until dry. The biggest feature for me is the range of temperature they do. All but one horse doesn't get sweaty above 16 degrees celsius and they all stay warm below zero- which is often here . the horse that gets sweaty is more inclined to do so if the rug is filthy and can't reflect the sun . Otherwise he is only sweaty on the shoulders. I haven't had any of the rugs cause rub marks . they are easy to clean and dry .

Bucas Power Turnout, Light
By: Ashleigh on 13 February 2017I have two narrow thoroughbreds. After trying a number of brands & styles of winter rugs, I was happy to find the Bucas Power Turnout, light. Being long, angular horses many of the other rugs I have used have caused rubbing around their chests or hips but the Bucks Power Turnout does not. Another incidental bonus is that the material is tough and hard for my horses to get hold of when they nip and bite at each other. They also clean up very well at the end of the season (I purchased the proper rug wash and followed the care instructions). The only things I'd change are; 1, where the belly strap & leg strap points are located as one of the rugs slides to one side and 2, the shape/cut of the tail flap. Other than that they are a great rug.

Bucas Rug
By: Anna Hoedeman on 17 June 2016I was looking for a Weather/waterproof rug that I can leave on when the sun comes out and is warm enough on these cold winter nights. My mare has quite a thick coat so the 'Light' style looked good to me. She has had it on for a week now in light frosts and sunny 14* days - and she has been not too hot and not too cold. Just put a neck rug on tonight as its raining I'm sure she is happy. I like that it is possible to remove neck rug too.

Does not perform as stated
By: Clive James on 10 August 2015Hi , the rug itself is great but the rating is not as advertised at -10. I purchased the Bucas rug so that it would stay on the horse to temperatures up to 17 degrees which made the -10 degrees the right choice. the 17 seems fine but the -10 does not seem to do what it states even at -2 my horse is cold. It looks like i need to purchase the colder rating rug, which is disappointing after buying what you are thinking is the best.

great as ever!

I love it because when every one else has 4 rugs on their horse, i have two.. a cotton under rug, and the Bucas power turnout... ( people over rug their horses in Oz i think anyway:P AND its totally waterproof and doesn't slip off to one side. I would say though that i think if my horse was any wider in the shoulder it may be slightly too to tight.. she is wide in the chest but seems to work fine right now. Its also great because you dont have to worry if the sun comes out... it reflects back and doesn't overheat her. Love my Bucas.. once you go Bucas you never go back :)

Expensive but Love it
By: Lyn on 8 August 2014Was tentative because of the price, but is proving itself worth it as it has simplified the rugging routine. Love the lining fused to the tough breathable waterproof shell and the puffy/slightly gathered shoulder area is great as my boy is in this rug 24/7 and his badly rubbed shoulder hair is growing back. :) No more bibs!! yay. Daily temp range can be-3 to 18 so I throw my old heavy WB over the top at night and have a friend pull it off in the morning. Lovely and simple and I have a happy warm dry horse. Glad I listened to my friends advice in buying a size bigger. My boy normally takes a 6.6 so I ordered a 6.9 and large neck rug, perfect.

Best rugs we've ever owned
By: Fiona on 15 June 2014We use these rugs on our endurance horses after working them - you can hose down a hot sweaty horse, scrape and towel them, put these rugs on, and an hour later both the horse and the rug are dry and warm! Windproof and waterproof and they really do breathe. They never slip and the detachable neck rugs are excellent. On a clipped horse we'd use an extra under-rug for night-time. A word of caution on the sizing, it's very generous on the rugs, we have a 5 ft 6 on a horse that usually takes a 5 ft 9, etc, but the neck rugs are the opposite, we use the M even though the makers recommend S.

Good rug, not a great fit.
By: Claire on 8 July 2013The rug works really well in helping them regulate their own temperature in a range of conditions, also great to be able to throw it on when he's wet and he just dries nicely in it. The only negative I found with it is it pulls on his wither when he's grazing, its not really shaped well at the top. Good around the shoulders though and so nice to just have one rug on my clipped horse during the day instead of four!

Well worth the money
By: Kristy on 27 June 2013I've never had a rug fit so perfectly before. I bought the combi neck too and his mane is not rubbing out, infact it is growing back. It is really good quality and I can see it lasting a long time even with our barb wire fences. It is completely waterproof even after a week of non stop rain not like other synthetic rugs. I'm used to having at least 5 rugs on the horses during our winter which gets in the minuses so it feels wierd just having the light on. I do put a woollen rug on as well during the night as he wasn't as "toasty" warm as I would like but I'm very very happy with the rug and certainly recommend spending the money for it.

Best rug ever!
By: Kelly K on 18 June 2013I was a bit worried when I first pulled this rug out of the packet because it is very thin compared to what I'm used to but it seems to keep my baby nice and warm even on the coldest nights. One thing I really like about these rugs is the wool lining against the horse. Rugs with cotton or synthetic linings are very cold against the horse when they are first put on and my horse used to run a mile everytime I came towards him with the old Weatherbeeta. With the Bucas he stands perfectly still!

Worth the $$ for sure!
By: J Field on 4 June 2012Like another reviewer I have researched rugs to no end for my TB who sweats in everything as soon as the sun comes out. I struggle to rug him and also to find a rug that fits! Impressed with the quality, material and the elastic leg straps! What impresses me the most is the chest clasp, double padded front and the darting which makes the shoulder cut of the rug fit really well! The only thing I did notice is that the topline of the rug isn't shaped so it may put pressure on the wither area when the horse is grazing...but this is my TB who has a high wither and isn't the easiest horse to fit. If you want a good rug then I don't think you can go past this one for quality, fit and value for money. My other two horses were looking wistfully for their new rug tonight and my TB had a very smug and warm expression on his face! Will certainly buy this brand again. The Brits do know how to make a good turnout!

Amazing
10 May 2012I did a fair bit of research before buying Bucas and I am so pleased with the rug. My clipped thoroughbred now only wears one rug rather than 3 and at this time of year, I don't have to worry about changing the rug during the day when it warms up. I haven't tried it on him when he's wet/damp yet, but I am thrilled so far.

Expensive but worth every cent
1 May 2012Once you go Bucas you don't go back. I was very sceptical about the advertised temperature range for these rugs but was pleasantly surprised at how accurate they are. I've checked my horse on 18deg days - no sweat! And I've checked him on -3deg nights and he seems warm and cosy. I don't understand how they work but I absolutely love these rugs!
